Sunset

Our favorite time of day on the beach is the hour or so before sunset,  which occurs around 7:00.

The approaching sunset also makes Little Beach even more colorful than it is at other times of day, brining out even more interesting characters.  Take, for example, the old gentleman we have dubbed Mr. Erection. This fellow, who appears to be in his mid-late 60's, was recognized by Mark from previous trips to Maui because of his unique sunset ritual.

The guy, pictured above (with arm raised), starts doing Tai Chi-type moves at water's edge about an hour before sunset.  The moves become increasingly animated, then he abruptly stops and starts sort of grinding himself into the sand.  Somewhere along the way, he succeeds in obtaining an erection for all the world to see.  Then he starts playing a wooden flute.  No one bothers him; he just does his thing.

Then there is a drum circle, a group of men and women who hang out in the trees just above the beach and, around 5:00, start jamming:

Then there are the guys who do yoga poses just above the waters' edge, facing the setting sun.

And the birdies.
